Funeral Director at K McMillan Family Funeral Directors Ltd

About Kirsty
My name is Kirsty McMillan and I am proud to be the Funeral Director at K McMillan Family Funeral Directors Ltd. My journey to this role has been shaped by both personal experiences and a deep passion for helping others during life’s most difficult moments.
I grew up in the heart of Kilsyth, where my early childhood memories are filled with the sights and sounds of this small, close-knit community. I attended the Church of God nursery, followed by Balmalloch Primary School, before moving to Cumbernauld. There, I attended Cumbernauld Village Primary and later Cumbernauld High School.
Some of my fondest memories of childhood revolve around spending weekends with my Gran, who lived on Kingsway in Kilsyth. Those weekends were filled with laughter and adventure, as Kilsyth became my personal playground. I spent countless hours at the ‘Gulley’, rolling down the famous ‘Dummy Hill’, playing at Burngreen, and taking long walks along the highline to the beautiful Colzium. These moments instilled in me a deep appreciation for family, community, and the natural world around me—values that I carry with me to this day.
After leaving school, I was fortunate to land a position as an account’s assistant with the renowned hotel chain, Holiday Inn. From there, I transitioned into a role as a virtual PA, but it was the entrepreneurial spirit within me that ultimately drove me to take a bold step. At the age of 23, I made the decision to open my own business with a partner, providing memorial headstones to bereaved families. This was the start of my deep connection to the funeral industry.
Through my work in memorials, I had the privilege of meeting numerous funeral directors, which led to an incredible opportunity to train and gain hands-on experience in the funeral industry. I found myself deeply moved by the families I worked with, learning how to care for loved ones with compassion and dignity, and how to arrange funerals that honoured their unique lives. It was during this time that I knew I had found my calling.
After years of experience in the funeral industry, I decided to take the leap and open my own funeral home. I envisioned a place where families could receive a truly personal and empathetic service—one that honoured their loved ones with the respect and care they deserved. That dream became a reality when I founded K McMillan Family Funeral Directors Ltd.
